It works for holding items such as the remote or papers and magazines but there is one glitch I hadn't thought of. Because of the way it is designed you can't turn pages of books without having to pick the whole book up out of the rack first then repositioning the book back in. You can add tension and your workout will be great if you only workout in bursts of 15 minutes or so, but the longer you go the easier it gets. The tension lessens after awhile.
